Wednesday nights have always had an interesting dymanic in our family. In almost all congregations we’ve served, Wednesday night has meant choir practice. Anna really enjoys singing in the choir, and I enjoy every opportunity I can have to hang around the members of the congregation and listen to what’s on your minds. Some Sundays are so busy that I don’t even get to the choir room in time to pray before the worship service, and I certainly don’t get a chanceto talk to everybody I would like to in the depth that sometimes is important; so Wednesday night at choir practice gives that opportunity. One place where we lived the children would go to the meal and youth group that was a community ministry based at the Baptist church. Anna and I would go to the nearby steak house and eat supper and then go to choir practice at the congregation out in the country. Another congregation has weekly Wednesday night suppers, then UMYF or adult Bible Study before choir practice. Here at Trinity we have monthly suppers, occasional meetings of ministry teams and then choir practice. These opportunities give us a chance in the middle of the week to see each other, to be about the Father’s business and to find a little support from each other in the middle of te week.
The fact is, we need extra times to get together. I hate to see the increase of ball games, school meetings and other activities on Wednesday when for years Wednesday night has been a time for God’s people to meet and build each other up. I hope that each one who reads this will find a time–Wednesday or some other day– to meet with your church family and friends and to be built up and encouraged by the time together. I hope that each one will find time for that mid-week reflection that comes from just a short time-out to experience the presence of God.
God bless each one, Gene Feagin, Pastor
