Every so often I hear someone reminisce about the days when school never started before Labor Day. I can remember my parents surprising us one year by packing us all into the car and driving from the mountains where we lived to Myrtle Beach for the Labor Day weekend. We didn’t have reservations; Dad had been able to take some vacation time rather unexpectedly. When we got home we all went back to work or back to school. I’m not sure if that was the time we came home from a trip and found a garage door window broken out or if I am confusing this trip with another. At any rate, Labor Day weekend is still a signal of a significant change in the way we look at things. Vacations are generally over–rates go down at the Beach (or I guess they do). Football starts back both at the high school and college and professional level and our days take on a slightly different pattern. My retired friends may not notice the change as much as those who still are “on the clock” somewhere, though many of them begin to plan their beach trips and other activities without the expectation of so many young people and families around. There is a change in our mindset that will stay with us until almost Thanksgiving and Advent.

I would hope that our mindset will include worship, church school and involvement in the activities of our local churches. At Trinity we have celebrated (beautifully, I might add) Camp Meeting Sunday, then the “Afternoon of BACH” presentation. Our First Wednesday Night supper will be this week, Trinity Travelers will be next Wednesday. The KFC program will be beginning (see the newsletter for details) as will UMYF and other activities. This is a great time to become more involved.

I hope to see you Sunday. Gene Feagin, Pastor

What else do I need to say but “Thank you”? Thanks to Raphael Dessieu for his inspirational and informative sharing with us last night concerning the situation in Haiti and for his witness to the love and power of God in the middle of the disaster. Thanks to old friends Lex and Lee McDonald for planning his visit and having him with us. Thanks to Kim Jones and all of her helpers for the delicious “refreshments” (feast is a more appropriate word!). Thanks to David Hodges and the Praise Team for the beautiful music (Did they remind anyone of a thinner, younger version of the Mamas and the Papas?) Thanks to Phil Suggs for special music. Thanks to each one who came to worship with us and to learn first hand. Thanks to those who generously gave Raphael a love offering of over $200.

Of course, we need to thank God for all of the love and joy that is poured out us on a daily basis and for the support that comes even in the middle of long term recovery from disasters like the earthquake. Right now we need to thank God for all of the people who have given support to Haiti–and we need to pray for more help, for help going to the right places and being used in the right way. God bless each one.
Gene Feagin, Pastor

Vacation Bible School is over half way over and we have been constantly amazed by the excitement and attendance that we have experienced this week. 127 children have been in attendance, learning about the ways in which we celebrate God’s Creation. What a blessing this has been.

Looking ahead, now, to Sunday evening, we are looking forward to another blessing for the community. At 6PM in the Trinity Center we will welcome the Rev. Raphael Dessieu, former president of the Methodist Church of Haiti, and pastor of a Haitian Mission in Tampa. He will come with pictures, with a testimony and with a willingness to share. The community is invited to join us.

God bless each one. Gene Feagin, Pastor

Our Annual VBS began this morning with a record-breaking 132 children registered and 116 in attendance. Thanks to our VBS team led by Teresa Anderson we were ready and able to teach and share the good news of God’s creation and the gift of new creation as we see it through Jesus Christ. In 30+ years of ministry this has been the best attended VBS I have every taken part in. The teachers, the shepherds, the parents and the students have all done an awesome job! Imagine what we can do when we all give so much of ourselves. More to follow! Gene Feagin, Pastor
